Changeling Costumes Circa 1920's

Changeling the 2008 American period thriller directed by Clint Eastwood and written by J. Michael Straczynski kinda scares me. What a frightening experience and what drama the movie must have. The film takes place in 1928 Los Angeles and tells the true story of a woman who recognizes that the boy returned to her after a kidnapping is not her son. After confronting the city authorities, she is vilified as an unfit mother and branded delusional. The movie Changeling stars Angelina Jolie as Christine Collins, Jeffrey Donovan as J.J. Jones and John Malkovich as Gustav Briegleb. The costumes in the movie are circa 1920’west coast style. While the clothes in the movie Changeling surely were stylish they also were a mix of vintage, retro costumes, accessories and other Hollywood wardrobe items. Don’t get me started about prop masters though, because there is a whole other great creative mind working on set design etc to make movies memorable and entertaining.

Many of you have requested info on the clothes from the movie Rent. So we got busy researching, made some calls, sent some emails, begged a little and wham like the sounds of heels hitting a table we got some info for you. This was another great movie to research as it was actually the first Broadway Play I ever saw and a great introduction to the power of New York Theatre. So as the team was submitting work to me I got to re-live some of the great scenes from Rent, via the wardrobe. Did you know that a number of costumes in the film are based on those from the original stage production, including the striped sweater Mark wears during "La Vie Boheme", Collins' hat, Mimi's New Year's Eve outfit (which she actually wears during 'Out Tonight' in the stage production), Maureen's catsuit, and several of Angel's costumes, including the flowered skirt costume and the Santa suit.
